Nelson Coulbourne Riggin, 63, of Crisfield, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at his home.
Born in Crisfield August 10, 1946, he was the son of the late William Edwin Riggin, Jr. and Elva M. Miles Riggin. Nelson was a retired truck driver for Tidewater Express in Crisfield.
He was a 1964 graduate of Milton Hershey School, Hershey, PA. After graduation he attended Hershey Junior College and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
He was a life long member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where he was involved in music activities, such as the Sanctuary Choir, Men's Quartet and Orchestra. He had been a member of several bands in the area and was an accomplished bass guitar player. Nelson served in the U.S. Army (1229th Division of National Guard) from 1966 to 1971.
Surviving are four children, Duane Evans (Kathleen) of Virginia, Christopher Riggin (Crystal) of Preston, MD, Helga Hatcher (Josh) of Bradford, PA, and Hailey Yoder (Will) of Galeton, PA; one brother, W. Edwin Riggin, III of Crisfield; 11 grandchildren, two nieces & one nephew.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George M. Riggin, and one grandchild.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 PM at the Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sally Russum officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army.
