Obituary

NELLIE KATE TYLER, 94, of Crisfield, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne.

Born in Accomack County, Virginia on October 7, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John William and Millie Blackwell Wolfe. She had been making her home in Crisfield for the past 50 years. Her husband, Lawrence Wesley Tyler died December 31, 1972.

She was a seamstress at the former Crisfield Cap Factory, and in her later years, was a foster grandparent for Shore Up at the former Crisfield Elementary School and Marion Sarah Peyton School.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield.
She was very family oriented and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidering. She also had a great love for animals. She rescued many cats and dogs over the years. Her special pet was a dog named Candy.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Yvonne Sterling and her husband Randall "Tucker" Sterling of Crisfield; a granddaughter, Tempie Bishop Bonaparte of Crisfield; a great-grandson, Jeremy Bishop of Crisfield; a special nephew, Garnett L. Mears and his wife Cecil of Belle Haven, VA; a loving niece, Lynette Allen of Springville, NY; a special grandson, Granville Tyler and his wife Joyce of Spokane, Washington; a step-grandson, Gary Tyler and his wife Connie of Marion, Indiana; a step-granddaughter, Yvonne Darwin of PA; a special friend, Georgianna Hayman of Crisfield; an additional 7 nieces and nephews; and 9 step-great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Robert, Ernest, and Vincent Ewell Wolfe, Lillian Mears, Millie Ring, Virginia Texas Stevens, and Lucille Daisey; three step-children, Lawrence Tyler, Jr., Madeline Smith and Granville Gene Tyler; a step-grandson, Woody Mister; and a step-granddaughter, Teeny Howard.

A graveside service will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 2 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. There will be no viewing. Following the service, there will be a gathering at her home at 13 Wynfall Avenue.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
