Nellie Jane Hinman, 83, of Crisfield, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Alice B. Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her family by her bedside.

Born March 29, 1942, at McCready Hospital in Crisfield, she was the daughter of the late Etheridge Ewell "Smitty" Smith, Sr. and Georgianna Maddox Smith. Her husband of 45 years, Robert (Bob) Preston Hinman, Sr., died November 26, 2011.

Nellie was a proud graduate of Crisfield High School and spent her life caring for others as a devoted home health care provider and caregiver.

Nellie loved caring for those in need, spending time with her grandchildren, and hosting or attending family gatherings. She enjoyed reading and taking daily rides around the "strip" with her sisters, fondly known together as "the Golden Girls," and she cherished every opportunity to laugh and joke with her brothers. She was a member of Crisfield Wesleyan Church, where she found joy and fellowship among her church family.

She is survived by her six children: James Johnson (Mary Anne), Tammie Johnson (Buddy), Bobby Hinman (Jackie), Lisa Forbush (Mike), Rebecca Hinman, and Christiana Carpenter (Lance); grandchildren: Kelsey Brooks (Dylan), Jonathan Evans (Jen), Heather Evans Jeffers (David), Michael Forbush, Nikolas Forbush (Christy), Alex Forbush (girlfriend, Gracie Mrohs), Ragyn Jones (boyfriend, Chad Troxell), and Preston Byrd; and great-grandchildren: Noah Evans, Carver Forbush, Easton Forbush, Mason Brooks, and Callan Brooks.

She is also survived by her brother, Butch Smith (Dee); sisters, Connie Eisenhauer, Emily Alexander (Terry), Georgia Evans, and Mary Thomas; her sister-in-law, Gina Smith; and several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Collins, and her brother, Ted Smith.

With heartfelt gratitude, the family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of Alice B. Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care of Nellie.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Bob Daniels, will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, 306 W. Main Street, Crisfield, MD 21817, where visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Private interment for the immediate family will follow at Sunnyridge Memorial Park, 27204 St. Peters Church Road, Crisfield.
