Nancy McClenahan Vessey, 82, of Rehobeth, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at her home.
Born in Brooklyn, New York February 6, 1930, and raised in Crisfield, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Poleyette McClenahan. Her husband of 59 years, William Gordon "Bill" Vessey, died July 29, 2010.
The owner of Vessey Orchards, she was a graduate of Crisfield High School and St. Mary's Junior College. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Westover, Daughter's of the American Revolution, and the Monday and Thursday night Bridge Clubs. In her younger years, she was a past member of the Maryland and Somerset County Historical Societies, Pocomoke River Garden Club, and was past president of the school PTA. She was also owner of Christmas Wonderland for 20 years. She loved to knit, she enjoyed playing golf with her husband, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A loving mother, she is survived by four children, Anne Lee Vessey of Berlin, Nancy Elizabeth "Sissy" Vessey of Rehobeth, Mary Kay Corbin and husband Tim of Rehobeth, and William Sidney Vessey and wife Cindy of Rehobeth; six grandchildren, Christopher Richard Eschenburg of Berlin, Jennifer Lee Eschenburg of Ocean City, Susan Lambertson Redden and husband Jonathan of Rehobeth, John Edmund Boston, II and wife Leslie of Pocomoke, Megan Lee Vessey of Rehobeth and Caitlyn Elizabeth Vessey of Rehobeth; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Elizabeth Lambertson and Colton William Boston; two step-great-grandchildren, Dylan Peterson and Ethan Peterson; a brother, Charles McClenahan and wife Annette of Crisfield; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Butler of Shelltown and Alice Vessey of Pocomoke; a special "sister", Tease Price of Crisfield; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be no public viewing however the family will receive friends Wednesday evening, March 21, 2012 from 6-8 at her home, 31841 Vessey Orchard Road. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 1 PM at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Westover. Father William Porter will officiate. Interment will follow in Rehobeth Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
