Nancy Lee Clayton, 78, of Tylerton, Smith Island and formerly of Baltimore, MD died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Crisfield June 13, 1938, she was a daughter of the late William Wells Clayton and Laura Jane Evans Clayton.

She was a graduate of Pocomoke High School class of 1956 and furthered her education at the University of MD. She was a retired Assistant Vice President for T. Rowe Price and Associates, Inc. in Baltimore.

Nancy loved Baltimore and was a successful business woman there for more than 30 years. Following her retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer throughout the City of Baltimore. She served as a docent for both the MD Historical Society and the Enoch Pratt Free Library and volunteered many years at the Baltimore City Fair. When she returned to her home on Tylerton, Smith Island, she was a member of Union U. M. Church and served as Secretary of the WSCS. She was also Past Secretary of the Tylerton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Past Director and Secretary of the Smith Island Cultural Center. She loved meeting new people and enjoyed talking with the many tourists and always went out of her way to greet them. She also went out of her way to share stories with the children of the island. She loved spending time with her close-knit family and especially enjoyed her Sister-Aunt-Cousin get-togethers. She was also a world traveler, enjoying vacations abroad. Nancy will also be known for her kind and selfless generosity shown to her family and others.

She is survived by three siblings, June Clayton Evans and husband Eddie of Ewell, Brenda Clayton Vest and husband Reese of Pasadena, and Billy Clayton and wife Louise of Tylerton; nieces and nephews, Eddie Evans, Jr., Glen Evans, Susan Evans, Leigh Anne vonHolle, Janet Tyler, Laura Vest, James Reese Vest, III, Clay Clayton, and Matt Clayton; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Rick Edmund will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 2 PM at Union United Methodist Church on Tylerton where a visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

A special boat for funeral passengers, Chelsea Lane, will depart Somers Cove Marina Thursday at 12 Noon and return following the funeral service.
