Obituary



Millard Kirk Daugherty, 75, of Salisbury and formerly of Bridgeville, DE and Crisfield, MD, passed away from a heart attack Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Born in Baltimore, MD June 6, 1942, he was a son of Millard Lee Daugherty who died January 8, 2012 and Josephine "Jo" Matthews Daugherty who died December 26, 2015.

He graduated in 1960 from Bridgeville High School and in 1962 from Johns Hopkins School of X-Ray Technology. He started his career as an X-Ray Technologist at McCready Hospital in Crisfield from September 1962 until June 30, 1963.

He then entered the Maryland State Police Academy and served in the Maryland State Police until June 1, 1989, obtaining the rank of First Sergeant. During his tenure with MSP, he was detached to the Maryland General Assembly during the Legislative Session for 11 years, 10 of which he was appointed Sgt-At-Arms of the Maryland Senate. He served as President of the Maryland Troopers Association from 1985 to 1989, and again from 2003 to 2017.

He was appointed Chief Deputy of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office in July 1989 and served until June of 2000. In September of 2000 he was employed by Perdue Farms as personal assistant to Mr. Frank Perdue, and served until Mr. Perdue's passing in 2005. Finally, on July 28, 2007, he was appointed Chief of Police for The Town of Snow Hill, MD and served until his retirement on May 5, 2015.

Very active in the communities he served, he held numerous memberships including Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury, MD, Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Moose, Lions and Elks Clubs, and was recently appointed to the Wicomico County Personnel Board.

He enjoyed boating, cooking, golfing, splitting and burning wood, and was an avid Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Susan Daugherty of Salisbury; son, Michael Daugherty of Princess Anne, MD; daughter, Lois Burkett of Girdletree, MD; step-children, Jan Danner of Pocomoke City, MD, Paxton Dulany (Lauren)of Hebron, MD, and Brittany Dulany of Ocean City, MD; his brother, Steve Daugherty and fiancé Robin Taylor of Greenwood, DE; his sister, Kaye Hoge and husband Terry of Greenwood, DE; nieces and nephews, Kyle Daugherty and wife Sheila of Greenwood, DE, Kelli Duncan and husband William of Georgetown, DE, Amy Morris of Delmar, MD, Lindsay Taylor and husband Josh of Delmar, DE, and Katelyn Casey and husband Kyle of Seaford, DE; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. George Patterson will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 2 PM at Trinity U. M. Church, 112 High Street, Salisbury, MD 21801, where a viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-9. Entombment will follow the funeral service at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, MD.
