CRISFIELD
MILES "BUDDY" TYLER, 82, of Crisfield, died Friday, October 27, 2006 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.
Born in Crisfield on October 13, 1924, he was a son of the late Howard W. and Hettie Miles Tyler.
He graduated from Crisfield High School in 1941, where he earned letters in soccer, baseball and basketball. Later, he played baseball with the former "Crisfield Vets" of the former Eastern Shore League and basketball in the former Central Shore League.
He was an avid fan of the former Baltimore Colts as well as the Baltimore Orioles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years.
He owned and operated Somerset Express Trucking Company, but he was probably best known for his many years as a school bus contractor of Bus #42. He transported many school children as well as athletic teams and the CHS Band. He was affectionately known by many students as "Mr. Buddy".
He was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where he served on numerous committees and boards. He was also a life member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044. In addition, he did volunteer work in community festivals such as Crab Derby, J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, Oyster and Bull Roast, and the Tangier Sound Country Music Festival.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosabelle Somers Tyler of Crisfield; his son, Clifton Miles "Bud" Tyler and his wife Sarah Johnson Tyler of Scottsdale, Arizona; his cousins, Edwin Riggin and Nelson Riggin, both of Crisfield; his nephews, Howard Henderson and his wife Jean and Fred Henderson and his wife Kathy, all of Marion Station and Robin Tyler and his wife Freida of Magnolia, Delaware; his nieces, Denise Chelton and her husband Kevin of Salisbury and Crystal McCubbin and her husband Mark, of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania; his great-nieces, Jessica Cook and her husband Chuck and Melissa Chelton and Derick Cline, all of Salisbury and Melissa Tyler of Magnolia; his great-nephew, Daniel Tyler of Magnolia; his very special great-great nieces and nephew, Peyton and Reagan Cline and Aiden Cook, all of Salisbury; his sisters-in-law, Haraldine Tyler of Princess Anne and Bowen Ward of Salisbury; his brother-in-law Fred Henderson, Sr. of Marion Station; and his special cousins, Mark and Amy Riggin of Princess Anne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Howard C. Tyler; his brothers, Jerry and Brice Tyler; and s sister, Olga Tyler Henderson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 2 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev.'s Steve Willing and Terry Riggin will officiate. An Elks memorial service will be performed by the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
