PALK, Mildred Marie (nee Stenson) died suddenly on 31 December at the age of 95. She is survived by her son William and his wife Veronica of Annapolis; her niece Margaret Haase and her husband Joseph of Marion, Maryland; her nephew James D. Briggs, Jr. and his wife Amy of Arkansas; two grandsons--Thomas Short of Michigan and Jonathan Short of New York City; her son-in-law Lauren Robinson of Michigan; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Palk (Major, USAF/Retired), her daughter Peggy Yarrow, her sister Ann Briggs, and five other siblings. Mrs. Palk was born in Nassau County, Long Island, on April 21, 1916, and grew up there. She and her husband married in 1942; after he returned from the war, they lived on Long Island until being transferred by her husband's employer, Eastern Air Lines, first to Atlanta and then to Miami. After she was widowed she moved to Richmond, Virginia, to live with her sister Ann. After her sister's death, she moved to Marion, where she lived with the Haases. She attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, Maryland. Mrs. Palk was an active and enthusiastic volunteer with the local Civil Defense organization and local nursing homes in Atlanta and with a local hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Palk was physically active throughout her life, leading exercise classes and riding a bicycle well into her 80s. She enjoyed good health until the very last. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to The Salvation Army.
