Obituary

Mildred Jane "Mid" Tyler, 86, of Rhodes Point, Smith Island, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born May 12, 1936 on Smith Island, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Clara Jane Sneade Marsh. Her husband, John Edwin Tyler, preceded her in death on June 6, 1986.

She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church on Rhodes Point, where she was very active in the United Methodist Women and served as Treasurer for many years. She loved taking care of people in their time of need and was a caretaker to family members when they would become ill. She also drove the school bus on the island and worked many jobs here and there over the years.

Mid was an exceptional cook and enjoyed cooking for people. She always loved and looked forward to visits while at home and when she was in the nursing home. Having company was always her favorite.

She is survived by her son, John Cranston Tyler and wife Debbie of Rhodes Point; grandchildren, Beth Ann Tyler and husband Robbie of Marion, Amy Jean Somers and husband Daniel of Westover, and David Tyler of Crisfield; great-grandchildren, Bryce Tyler, Maci Tyler, Levi Somers, Ainsley Somers, and McKenzie Tyler; nieces, and nephew, Gladys Jane Bishop and husband Glen of Marion, Laurie Ann Miller and husband Todd of Crisfield, and Lana Delano of Reedville, VA and Jamie Haynie of Farnham, VA; and several other nieces and nephews on her husbands' side as well as several cousins.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Olivia Marsh Harris and Gladys Haynie; and nephews, Donnie Marsh, Larry Marsh, and Bobby Gene Tyler.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Calvary United Methodist Church on Rhodes Point at 2 PM. A viewing will be held at the church Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM. Rev. Everett Landon assisted by Rev. Jim Evans will officiate the service and interment will follow in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A special boat for Funeral passengers, Chelsea Lane, will depart Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield on Wednesday at 12:15 PM and will return following the funeral services.
