CRISFIELD
MARY ROSE TODD, 87, of Crisfield, died Friday, November 17, 2006 at the home of her daughter, in Crisfield.
Born in Albright, West Virginia on February 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Thomas George and Pearl Freeland Welch. Her first husband, Wells W. Evans, Jr., died in 1962, and her second husband, George Luther Todd, died in 2005.
A graduate of the Bowling Green Kentucky School of Business, she was a retired school teacher working 30 years in Somerset County before her retirement. She was also very proud of being able to attend her 70th year Kingwood High School class reunion in Kingwood, West Virginia this past year.
She was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield where she was active in Circle 1, the UMW, and the Everready Sunday School Class. There, she was past president of the UMW, and a former Mother of the Year. She was also a member of the Maryland Retired Teachers Association.
She loved the water, crocheting, quilting, and cooking (especially her famous crab cakes and Smith Island Chocolate cakes). Most of all, she was very devoted to her family, always putting others before herself.
Surviving is a son, Leon W. Evans, Crisfield; a daughter, Mary Ruth Thomas and husband David, Crisfield; Step-Son, George W. Todd, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Crisfield; Son-In-Law, Irvin Betts and wife Nancy of Georgetown, DE; a brother, Ralph Welch and wife Amanda of Nova, Ohio; Sister-In-Law, Eva Welch of Florida; grandchildren, Wells Betts and Michael Betts, both of Georgetown, DE, Shane Evans of Salisbury, and Heather Conner of Pasadena, CA; step-grandchildren, Andrew Todd of Marion Station, and Erin Todd of Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Danielle Betts, Crystal Betts, Chelsea Betts, Sierra Pusey, Elijah Pusey, and Jenna Evans; step-great-grandchildren, Adam Gibson and Aidan Todd. Also surviving are several cousins and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and her first and second husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Rose Betts in 1972, a brother, Lynn Welch, and sisters, Martha Wharton and Ruby Jane Welch.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 2 P.M. at the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Bill Davis will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Sam Horner. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park near Crisfield.
