Obituary

Mary Elfreda Powell, 83, of Salisbury and formerly of Marion Station, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake.

Born in Panacea, FL on March 26, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Willie Hartsfield and Jewell McCallister Crockett.  Her husband of 60 years, Larry James Powell, preceded her in death on September 8, 2019.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and gardening.  She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She attended God's Gathering Place in Salisbury and in her earlier years was a member of Quindocqua United Methodist Church in Marion Station.

She is survived by two children, Mary Jean Walter and husband Jakob and Jimmy Powell and wife Tammy, all of Marion Station; grandchildren, James Powell of Chambersburg, PA, Jessica Walter of Marion Station, Kristy Thomas and husband Jamie of Salisbury, Jaclyn Rigby and husband Rob of Sterling, VA, and Jakob Walter and wife Roberta of Marion Station; great-grandchildren, Jax Walter, Wren Walter, Carin Walter, Asher Thomas, and Astrid Walter.  She is also survived by her special friend, Mary Owens of Fruitland.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Billy Hartsfield, Halene Smith, Ethelle Porter, and Jewell Pisani.

Private Graveside services will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station.
