Mary Lee Moore, 94, of Tangier Island, VA, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at her home.

Born on Tangier Island on August 17, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Rita Evans Wheatley. Her husband of 20+ years, Edward Smith "Miff" Moore, preceded her in death in 1968.

Mary Lee was a graduate of Tangier Combined School and worked in the Accomack County School System on Tangier for 40 years as a Teachers Aid and Health Aid.

She was a life-long and devout member of Swain Memorial Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a faithful member of the choir for many years. While her children were in school, she was very active in the PTA.

Mary Lee enjoyed reading and puzzle books, especially word searches. She also was a beautiful singer and shared her gift at many special events on the Island.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Parks and husband William of Tangier; five grandchildren, Ashley Jester and husband Adam and their son, Ayden McMann; Nicholas McMann and wife Tara and their children, Zoe McMann and Brayden McMann; Hillary Parks of Virginia Beach; Amanda Parks and significant other Lance Daley, and Eli Parks and significant other Beth Windsor, all of Tangier Island; and son-in-law, Nick McMann of Ashland, VA.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie McMann; and brothers, Harold "Spike" Wheatley and his wife, Ella Wheatley, and Allen Wheatley and his wife, Anna Lou Wheatley.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2 PM at Swain Memorial Church on Tangier Island. Friend and Missionary, Ella Crockett, will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Charles "Chuck" Parks and Nina Pruitt.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Tangier Fire Department or to Swain Memorial Church.
