Mary Elizabeth Suarez, 92, of Crisfield, MD, daughter of the late Horace (Ned) Wilson and Daisy Sterling Wilson and wife of the late Raymond Suarez, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Known as "Mary Liz," she is survived by a son, Raymond E. Suarez, and his wife, Martha Johnston, both of Baltimore, and her devoted caregiver, Lorraine Landon. An animal lover and rescuer of many strays, she also leaves behind her cat Squeaky and a legacy of many cats and dogs adopted over the years.

A native of Crisfield and descendent of the town's original families, Mary Liz lived in Crisfield all but a brief period in the late 1940s, when she, her husband and son moved to her husband's hometown of Springfield, IL.

Mary Liz was a lifelong member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Deborah Circle, Sunday school and numerous other activities. She was also an active member of the Crisfield Women's Civic Club and the local AARP chapter.

Legendary for her stylishness, sociability and outgoing nature, Mary Liz enjoyed outings and activities with friends and family, including a large gathering to celebrate her 90th birthday, and delighted in meeting scores of visiting dignitaries and politicians at Crisfield's well-known civic events.

Funeral services officiated by Pastor Todd Hurley will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home or one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
