MARY KATHERINE "KITTY" DYSON, 89, of Shelltown, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
She was born on Smith Island on August 20, 1920, a daughter of the late Willie and Mary Katherine Parks Evans. Her husband, Earl A. Dyson, Sr., preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Westover, and the Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed attending TOPS meetings with her sister, and was very proud of being a Riveter during World War II.
She is survived by two children, Earl A. Dyson and his wife Ruthie of Marion and Joanne E. Post and her husband Bill of Chincoteague; a sister, Avalon Young of Shelltown; two grandchildren, Christine Braughler of Salisbury and Scott Sier of Shelltown; two special great-grandchildren, Jack Braughler of Salisbury and Scott Sier, Jr. of Shelltown; five step-grandchildren, Vanessa Sterling of Crisfield, Buddy Post of Ocean City, Laurie Bowie of West Ocean City, Donnie Post of Ocean Pines, and Michael Post of West Ocean City; eight step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Hazel, Florence, Laura and Willie.
Funeral services officiated by Jim White will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 12 Noon at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Deer's Head Hospital Dialysis Unit, 351 Deer's Head Hospital Road, or American Diabetes Association of the Eastern Shore, 114 Baptist Street, both Salisbury, MD 21801.
