Obituary

Mary Frances Hicks Butler, affectionately known as "Jimmy" and "Mom Butler", passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Friday, May 2, 2025 at the age of 96.

Born on September 11, 1928 in Hurlock, she grew up in Pocomoke and was a daughter of the late Guy S. and Bertha Johnson Hicks.  Her husband of 69 years, Marion L. Butler, Sr., preceded her in death on August 29, 2015.

She was a graduate of Pocomoke High School class of 1945, and worked in the business office at the former C&P Telephone Company retiring after 30 years.  She was active in the former Pocomoke City Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and was a member of Salem Methodist Church.

"Jimmy" enjoyed all the nature that surrounded her home and especially enjoyed watching and feeding her squirrels, birds and fish.  Her fish pond was an especially popular attraction for the young children in the family, neighbors and friends.  She loved spending time with her family and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She spent her final days surrounded by the love and presence of her children and grandchildren, and in her final moments, her hand was held with tenderness and care, a reflection of the deep love she shared with her family.  She left behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.

She is survived by three children, Alice Jean Ennis, Marion L. Butler, Jr. and wife Helen, and Penny Butler, all of Pocomoke City; her sister, Betty Richardson of Snow Hill; nine grandchildren, Glen Ennis and significant other Lynne, Dean Ennis and wife Harriet, Mel Butler and wife Kate, Matthew Butler and wife Sarah, Michelle McColligan, Jerry Taylor, Lisa Taylor, Pedro Valdez and wife Julia, and Jeanette Jardine and husband Jim; 22 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special people that knew her as "Mom Butler".

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Norman Ennis; and two sisters, Mabel Messick and Shirley Turlington.

Viewings will be Monday evening, May 12, 2025 from 6-8 PM and Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 12-1 PM at the Pocomoke Community Center,1410 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 1 PM at the Pocomoke Community Center, 1410 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.  Pastors Jim Collison, Sr. and Jim Collison, Jr. will officiate.  Interment will follow in First Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Company, Inc., 1410 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
