Mary Ellen Scott English, 88, of Salisbury and formerly of Crisfield, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home. The love and care provided at the Tawes Nursing Home was wonderful and so appreciated. We are blessed with this facility.

Born in Crisfield on August 7, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Delsie Townsend Scott. Her husband of 40 years, William “Pop” “Bill” English, preceded her in death on September 14, 2018.

Mary Ellen worked as a cook most of her life. She would host memorable Easter egg hunts and family dinners complete with the best Smith Island cake. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She served the Lord well, always helping others and feeding and caring for the sick and in need. She also volunteered at HALO and loved her church, Crossroads Church of God in Fruitland, MD.

She is survived by her children, Ray Somers (Cindy) and Cliff Somers (Holly); grandchildren, Ray Somers (Liz), Cliff Somers (Lori), Glen Somers (Jessica Eliza), Sam Douglas, Ben Douglas, Raymond Hill, Brad Hill, Paul Wooster (Nicole), and Jen Dallam; her brothers, Joe Scott (Nola) and Denny Scott (Alice); daughters-in-law, Debbie Haddaway, Tammy Eure, and Patty Miller; her Goddaughter, Lana Starr McCready; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Glen Somers and Freddie Somers; her brothers, The Scott Boys, Marvin, Eddie, Lake, Harold, Bill, and Richard; and her granddaughter, Amber Blake.

A memorial service officiated by Pastors Mike and Paula Rittenhouse will be held at Crossroads Church of God, 708 Sharps Point Road, Fruitland, MD on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 12 pm. A visitation will be from 11-12.
