IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Elizabeth
(Betty) Barnes
April 26, 1926 – January 31, 2021
Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hain Barnes passed away peacefully at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield after a long illness on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the age of 94.
Betty was a long-time resident of Pocomoke, MD where she was a Librarian at the Pocomoke Branch of the Worcester County Public Library for more than 20 years. Serving the patrons of the library brought great joy and meaning to her life.
Betty is survived by her son, John Hain; her daughter, Erica Eager; and her grandchildren, Ashley and Cyrus. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Barnes.
Betty loved reading (especially historical and mystery novels), sewing, genealogy and spending time daydreaming by the water or in the mountains. Betty loved to learn and research. One of her achievements was to successfully trace her granddaughter's ancestry in an unbroken line from daughter to mother back to her first female ancestor's arrival in Philadelphia by ship in the early 1700s. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife and is greatly missed.
Betty will be interred with her parents in Boyertown, PA. A funeral mass will be scheduled in the future when all who wish to celebrate her life can do so together.
