Obituary

Martin L. Tyler, 76, of Crisfield passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his home.

Born on Smith Island, Maryland on December 29, 1941, he was a son of the late Vincent L. Tyler and Virginia Marsh Tyler Bradshaw.

A graduate of Crisfield High School Class of 1959, he furthered his education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk where he obtained his degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management and went to work as district manager of Gino's in Salisbury.

A US Air Force Veteran, he loved working and held many job titles.  After serving in the Air Force, he worked as a boat captain which he was very proud of. He also was a police officer and when Eastern Correctional Institution opened, he worked as a Dietary Correctional Officer where he later retired.  After retirement, he owned a Snowball Stand business, sold gold, made crab pots, and was a real estate agent.

Aside from being a hard worker, he was very active in his community.  He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, former VFW Post #8274, and The Accohannock Indian Tribe.  He had a great love for music and was a base guitarist in a local band.  He loved eating out at restaurants and enjoyed going to Gordon's.

He is survived by his wife Nenita Tyler of Crisfield; children, April Nelson and husband Tommy of Salisbury, Cheryl Tyler of Crisfield, Jennifer Clayton and husband Clay of Westover, Adrian Tyler and wife Novie, and Angel Tyler, all of Crisfield and Eric Layman who was like a son and wife Jodi of Baltimore; step-children, Melissa Bodine, April Dufault, and David Tyler all of Florida; grandchildren, Rachel Derderian, Tyler Carson, Christina North-Ruark, Cody Martin, Madison Clayton, Angel Clayton, Raiden Prince Tyler, Samantha Layman, and Jordon Layman; great-grandchild, Grayson Broedell; niece and nephew, Tracy Warthen of Crisfield  and Mark Tyler of Salisbury.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Eugene Tyler.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2 PM at Immanuel United Methodist Church where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.  The Rev. Paul Holland will officiate.  Interment with military honors will follow at American Legion Cemetery.
