It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martin (Marmaduke) Sterling Jr., who passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2025, from a heart attack in Brandon, Florida.

Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dominica Z. Sterling, parents, Martin Sr. and Virginia Nelson, as well as his four brothers and two sisters.

A proud veteran and dedicated Air Force retiree, Martin served his country with honor and distinction throughout his career. Following his military service, he worked for a time at Mrs. Paul's Kitchen before establishing and operating a successful landscaping business that served both residential and commercial clients in the community.

Martin is survived by his current wife, Mercedes Castillo; his children, Angie Evans (Rick) and Martin Sterling III (Janice); his grand-children, Kristy, Brad, Ericka, Ryan, Martin IV, and Jordan; several great-grandchildren Ayden, Jackson, and Zinnia; and his faithful dog, Poppi.

A graveside memorial service with military honors will be Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 1 PM at Asbury Cemetery in Crisfield.  Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate.

The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of Somerset County in Martin's honor.
