MABEL FRANCES MASTROLA, 97, of Crisfield, died peacefully Monday, January 5, 2009 at the home of her loving great-niece and caregiver, Melissa Dixon and husband Anthony of Crisfield.
Born in Hooper's Island near Cambridge on March 14, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Molar and Manie Morgan Harris. She was a retired hairdresser.
She married entertainer Joseph Mastrola on February 2, 1935, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1974. They had a wonderful life together in Jersey City, New Jersey, and she enjoyed traveling with him to New York City and abroad while he performed with the USO.
After her husband's death, she moved back to her hometown of Crisfield to be with her special brother, Melvin Harris.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Donna Hickman, Fay Gilson, Carol Howard, Melvin Harris, Jr., and Tommy Harris, all of Crisfield, and Paula Frucci and her son Lee, Vivian O'Rourke, Marilyn Steffono, and Joseph Faccone and family, all of New Jersey; two brothers, William Harris of New York and Lynde Harris of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle V. Harris and Peggy Culbertson, of Crisfield; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 12 Noon at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Her nephew, Tommy Harris, will officiate. Interment will follow Thursday at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 406, Crisfield.
