Obituary

LUCY PEARL SOMMERS, 101, of Crisfield, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Crisfield on May 25, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Dollie Maddrix Parks. Her husband, Ralph R. Sommers, Sr., died in 1990.

A graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1927, she was retired from the former Carvel Hall Cutlery in Crisfield where she was an inspector and Clerk of the Retail Store.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she was secretary of WSCS for more than 40 years and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Women's Civic Club and AARP. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking. She was the rock that held the family together. Her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by four children, Ralph R. Sommers, Jr. of Crisfield, Terry D. Sommers of Pocomoke City, Mary Jane Long and husband Wayne of Salisbury, and Karen Sue Nikols and husband Dennis of Seaford; a son-in-law, Walter Ward of Crisfield; eight grandchildren, Deborah Fay Miles and husband Van of Virginia Beach, VA, Terry D. Sommers, Jr. and wife April of Hebron, Patricia Ann Dellon and husband Dr. Steve Dellon of Ohio, Michael Nikols and wife Stephanie of Oklahoma, Johnathan Nikols of Seaford, Delaware, Scott Nikols and wife Charlene of Bear, DE, Alyssa Adams of Newport, DE, and Kim Hinman and husband Ronnie of Crisfield; 16 great-grandchildren, Whitney P. Miles, Heather B. Miles, Sarah B. Sommers, Allison Jones, Rachel Dellon, Lauren Dellon, Michael Dellon, Ashton Nikols, Gabriel Nikols, Shawn Adams, Zachary Adams, Christian Nikols, Phoebe Nikols, Josh Hinman, Brittany Hinman, and Emily Hinman; a very special niece, Dollie Ann Harrison of Crisfield; and several other nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Ann "Ginger" Ward on March 1, 1999; two sisters, Mary L. Rayfield and Ethel K. Justice; and two brothers, John Parks and Harry Lee Parks.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Arthur Justice and Rev. Chuck Jacobson will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 1 PM at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7-9 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
