Obituary

Louis Nelson Matthews, 83, of Marion Station, died Sunday, July 29, 2018 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.

Born in Marion Station February 10, 1935, he was a son of the late Clarence Matthews, Sr. and Eva Mae Nelson Matthews.

A graduate of Marion High School, he was the maintenance foreman for Somerset County Schools working 41 years until his retirement in 2011.  He also worked for the Somerset County Board of Elections, and in his younger years was a plumber, electrician, and school bus contractor.

He was a US Army Korean War veteran, and was a member, past president, trustee, and chief engineer of Marion Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Catlin Matthews of Marion Station; his son, Stephen Matthews and wife Stacey of Chesterfield, VA; a special nephew who was like a son, Timothy Bozman and wife Kimberly of Princess Anne; two brothers, John F. Matthews and wife Joyce of Tyaskin and Clarence B. Matthews, Jr. and wife Jean of Upper Marlboro; a sister, Carolyn Mahnkey of Tyaskin; a sister-in-law, Ann Matthews of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Matthews and William T. Matthews; and a brother-in-law, Douglas Mahnkey.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Sumner Jones will be Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where a viewing will be one hour prior.  Interment with military and fireman honors will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station.
