ELOISE EDNA "LOIS" HORSTMAN, 76, of Salisbury and formerly of Crisfield and Baltimore, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Scotch Plains, New Jersey on June 15, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Hinrich Amandus von Staden and Alida Marie Sjoers von Staden.
She worked in Baltimore as a comptometer operator and as a salesperson at Sears. Later, she was a cook at Watermen's Inn in Crisfield, cook and hostess at Peaky's in Princess Anne, and hostess at the former Captain's Galley in Crisfield and Salisbury.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury where she had recently joined a Circle, and formerly was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and Asbury United Methodist Church, both in Crisfield. She was active in AARP and Compassionate Friends where she served as chairperson. She also loved to cook and do crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William Edward "Bill" Horstman of Salisbury; three sisters and two brothers, Christine Welliver of Newberry, Florida, Alida Horley and husband Stanley of Tucson, Arizona, Catherine Ely and husband Donald of Timonium, Maryland, Henry von Staden and wife Myrtle of Blair, Georgia, and Harold von Staden and wife Sue of Finksburg, Maryland; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David W. Horstman on August 23, 1989; and a sister, Alida C. Clark.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev.'s William Kniceley, William Wilson and John Pouncey will be Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 3 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call Saturday evening from 7-9 PM. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
