Obituary

LOIS ELIZABETH CLAYTON, 81, of Crisfield, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Crisfield March 12, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Archie Pierce and Mary Landon Tyler. Her husband, William Russell "Bill" Clayton, died December 25, 2006.

Mrs. Clayton graduated from Crisfield High School and attended Strayers Business School in Baltimore. A devoted homemaker, she taught piano lessons in her home, was employed with Rubberset Corporation in Crisfield for several years, and retired from the Somerset County School System after more than 13 years as secretary of Crisfield High School's Guidance Department.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Crisfield where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir for over 50 years, played piano and organ, and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the WSCS.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and she loved to play piano.

She is survived by three sons, William Fred Clayton and wife Harlene of Alexandria, Virginia, Donald Edward Clayton and wife Nancy of Salisbury and Timothy Tyler Clayton of Crisfield; four grandchildren, Stephanie Clayton, Stacey Clayton, Donald Edward Clayton, II, and Jeremy Joseph-Daniel Clayton; four great-grandchildren, Devin Trout, Sydney Trout, Ava Elizabeth Clayton, and Isaac Edward Clayton; two sisters, Mary Tyler Hall of Ocean Pines and Lou Anne Drury of Marietta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Tyler.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 2 PM at Mt. Pleasant U. M. Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Carol Carlson will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Mt. Pleasant U. M. Church Memorial Fund, 39 W. Main Street. Crisfield, MD 21817.
