LINWOOD B. "POSSUM" STERLING, SR., 81, of Crisfield, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at his home.
Born in Crisfield October 15, 1927, he was a son of the late Bennett Tutson and Mabel Ellen Landon Sterling.
He was a retired truck driver working for Tidewater Express, H. Glenwood Evans, and Southern Connection.
A member of the Eastern Shore Evangelistic Church in Marion, he loved going to church, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laura Frances Davis Sterling of Crisfield; six children, Linwood Benson Sterling, Jr., Jerry Rue Sterling, Laura Lynne Sterling, Ronnie Sterling, Gregory Davis Sterling, and David Bruce Sterling, all of Crisfield; four sisters, Shirley Frances Young, Joyce Swift, Shirley Jones, Carolyn Hinman; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bennett Wayne Sterling, Jesse Sterling, Bobby Gene Sterling and Ora Lee Sterling; and one sister, Patsy Forbush.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 1 PM at Eastern Shore Evangelistic Church in Marion Station where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Jerry Hughes will officiate. Interment will follow in the VFW Cemetery in Crisfield. Memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Eastern Shore Evangelistic Church, P.O. Box 87, Crisfield, MD 21817.
