Linda Laird Sterling, 80, of Crisfield, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.
Born in Crisfield on April 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James "Randall" Laird, Sr. and Flora Elizabeth Lawson Laird. Her husband, Edwin Sterling, Sr. preceded her in death in 1962.
Linda was a 1959 graduate of Crisfield High School and attended the University of Maryland College Park. She worked for Somerset County Public Schools for 30 years starting out as a teaching assistant and retired as secretary to the assistant superintendant. She also worked in the labs at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional and TidalHealth McCready.
She was a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church serving as President of the United Methodist Women and the Martha Circle, church Historian, and also sang in the choir.
Very active in her community, she was faithfully involved with Relay for Life, served on the Somerset Board of Elections, and was a Cub Scouts Den Mother.
Linda enjoyed sports, especially local Crabbers basketball, and Baltimore Ravens football. She was a very artistic and a talented crafter who was extremely proud of having one of her paintings included in the Crisfield Pyramid Time Capsule. In addition, Linda had a passion for researching and sharing local history. She always enjoyed her daily visits to Gordon's, traveling, and above all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Edwin C. Sterling, Jr. and Debra Tyler, both of Crisfield; grandchildren, Paul "Trip" Tyler, III of Crisfield, Melinda Tyler Johnson of Baltimore, and Chelsea Kellam of Crisfield; great grandchild, Weston Tyler of Crisfield; brother, Randy Laird, Jr./Starr of Crisfield; nieces and nephews, Randy Laird, III and his wife Julie and their sons, Randy Laird, IV and Thomas Laird, Jerri Crockett and her husband Donald and their children, Stephen Evans, Dominic Crockett, Emma Crockett, and Major Crockett, all of Crisfield; many other special relatives; and her pet dog, "Tucker" and her cat, "Miss Kitty."
Memorial services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11 AM where a visitation will be from 10:30-11. Rev. Bert Jicha will officiate and urn interment will follow at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
