Obituary

LEON WELCH EVANS, 63, of Crisfield, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at his home.

Born in Crisfield on September 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Wells Wolfe Evans, Jr. and Mary Rose Evans Todd.

He graduated from Crisfield High School in 1964, Frostburg University in 1968 with a B.A. Degree in education majoring in history and geography, and later obtained his Master's Degree from Salisbury State University.

He was a teacher for Somerset County Schools for 18 years and also worked as a waterman for most of his life.

Leon was a life-long member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield, and was Past Exalted Ruler of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044. He was a friend to all.

He is survived by his son, Leon Shane Evans of Salisbury; his granddaughter, Jenna Mackenzie Evans; and his sister, Mary Ruth Evans Thomas and her husband David of Crisfield; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Rose Evans Betts in 1972.

A funeral service with Rev. s Bob Daniels and Kim Gilson officiating, will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM at the funeral home with an Elks Memorial Service beginning at 8 PM. Friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
