Obituary

LENA CATHERINE SNEADE, 98, of Rhodes Point, Smith Island, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born on Rhodes Point, Smith Island, February 26, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Levin Waters and Nellie Hoffman Marsh. Her husband, Maurice W. Sneade, died July 31, 1971.

She was a homemaker and helped her husband in the seafood business for many years.

She was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church on Rhodes Point where she had always been active in United Methodist Women, was a Sunday School Teacher, a choir member, and was active in many other areas. She loved her community and her church. She enjoyed having visitors and had entertained many visiting ministers, family and friends in her home. She also was a lifetime member of the former Chesapeake Chapter #28 Order of the Eastern Star. She was chosen Mother of the Year in 1977. Mrs. Lena loved people and enjoyed having friends and family visit her.

She is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Evans and her husband Glenwood of Laurel; four grandchildren, Cathy LaMaster of Laurel, Glen Evans and wife Tina of Laurel, and Kenny Sneade of Crisfield; nine great-grandchildren, Rachel Prettyman, Sarah Smith, and Lacy Tharle of Salisbury, Zachary Evans, Heather Evans, and Josh Evans of Laurel, Kenny Sneade, Jr. and Nicholas Sneade of Crisfield, and Amanda LaMaster of Ohio; four great-great grandchildren; and her caregivers, Debbie Tyler and Michelle Bradshaw of Rhodes Point.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Earl M. Sneade on July 3, 1996; a granddaughter, Wanda Somers; and two brothers, William Marsh and Herman Marsh.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 16, 2011 at 2 PM at Calvary U. M. Church on Rhodes Point with Pastor Rick Edmund officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 10-11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, and 7-9 PM at the church on Rhodes Point. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

There will be a special boat on Friday for funeral passengers, Capt. Jason II, that will depart the City Dock in Crisfield at 12:30 PM and return following the funeral.
