LAURA L. HORNER, 89, of Salisbury and formerly of Wenona, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.
Born in Powellville on January 10, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lucinda Hudson Mitchell.
"Miss Laura" was affectionately known as the Avon Lady in the Deal Island area for over 50 years. She was a homemaker, hard worker, loving wife to her husband, the late Samuel "Hooker" Horner, who died January 31, 1976, loving mother to her family, and was a friend to many. She was proud to have been a 54-year cancer survivor. She enjoyed having her pets around who brought her hours of pleasure. She was a true Christian lady and member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bill Haslam of Salisbury; her sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Samuel and Pattie Horner, of Crisfield, and Charles and Ginny Horner, and John and Gloria Horner, all of Wenona; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lena Smullen of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Smith; two sisters, Carrie Phillips and Mary Mitchell; three brothers, Nevin, Avery and George Mitchell; a niece, Virginia Matthews; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev.'s William Hankins and Lloyd Foard will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Church Cemetery.
