Larry Reed Laird, Jr., 57, of Crisfield, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Born on July 15, 1968 in Crisfield, and raised on Tylerton, Smith Island, Larry was the beloved son of the late Larry Reed Laird, Sr. and Marjorie Ann “Marge” Marshall Laird. He carried forward a legacy of love and dedication, deeply rooted in his family and community.
Larry graduated from Crisfield High School in 1987 and held a profound connection to the water that shaped so much of his life. From working alongside his father on the Smith Island ferry boat, Captain Jason II, to captaining the Learn-It tour boat and the charter boat Bay Eagle, he shared countless moments sailing the Chesapeake Bay. He found great joy in his work with the Save the Bay Foundation, guiding school children on voyages that nurtured their appreciation for the waterways he cherished. Later in life, Larry applied his skills as a small engine mechanic at Atlantic Tractor in Pocomoke and most recently served as field operations captain for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
A faithful member of Christ Fellowship Bible Church, Larry’s warm spirit and readiness to help were evident to all. His heart especially touched the children during Vacation Bible School, where his personality shone bright.
Larry was a gentle and loving soul whose compassion extended beyond people to animals, both wild and domestic. Known for his wonderful sense of humor and infectious smile, he could brighten any room and find light in every circumstance. His mornings were often spent surrounded by friends over breakfast, where lively conversations and laughter abounded. He treasured his time on the water with family and friends, savoring sunsets alongside his devoted wife, Patti. Above all, Larry adored children and was the proud grandfather to Cassie Bramble, Ryann Frock, Lewis Frock, Reed Frock, Arianna Avila, and Ramsey Frock — his greatest joy and pride, whose faces would light up at the mere sight of him.
In addition to his grandchildren, Larry is lovingly survived by his wife of nearly 29 years, Patti Culbertson Laird; his children Harold Frock(Jennifer), Timmy Frock(Amanda), and Taylor Laird; his sister Paula Harrison (Buck); aunts and uncles Tony Laird, Yvonne Harrison, and June Evans (Emory); nieces and nephews Wyatt Harrison(Kayleigh), Kara Harrison(Dustin), Caitlin Shook(Keith), Kristen Chesser, Levi Shook, Sutton Shook, Bowie Shook, Rori Townsend, and Lainey Harrison; and a number of cousins, in-laws, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts and uncles, Terry and Donna Jean Laird, Debbie Laird, and Michael Harrison; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Virginia and Lewis Culbertson.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11 AM at Christ Fellowship Bible Church in Marion Station, MD, where a visitation will be from 9-11 AM. Rev. Stephen S. Willing, who was often the good-natured target of Larry’s jokes, will officiate the service and will be assisted by Rev. Everett Landon.
In honor of Larry’s generous spirit, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, 7920 Crisfield Highway, Westover, MD 21871; or Christ Fellowship Bible Church, 5910 Crisfield Highway, Marion Station, MD 21838.
