Born in Crisfield on September 10, 1941, he was a son of the late Kenneth Washington Sterling who passed away on March 8, 2001 and Madeline Lucille Cullen Sterling who passed away on February 2, 1989.
A lifelong resident of Crisfield, he graduated from Crisfield High School in 1959 and served in the National Guard. He was retired from Carvel Hall where he worked until it closed. He then worked at Bennett Security and most recently Somers Cove Marina.

He was a dedicated sports enthusiast who coached little league and biddy league basketball, umpired little league and various tournaments, and was a fixture at the Shorebirds Stadium. He enjoyed running and cycling, and was a Ham radio enthusiast, where all over the world he was best known as "N3SZJ." He loved feeding his birds and providing the most accurate weather forecasts on the shore as "Ken Cantore." He was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Sterling and Brian Fox of Richmond, VA; brother, Larry Sterling and Patsy E. Somers of Crisfield; nieces and nephews, Julia Sterling-Oh and husband Jinhwa, and their son Mason of Macon, Georgia, Daniel Sterling and wife Caylin, and their daughter Grayce of Annapolis, MD, and Caroline Sterling and fiancé Erik Fox of Kirksville, MO; and several cousins.
