IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith Hall
Anderson
June 18, 1946 – August 16, 2021
Judith (Judy) Hall Anderson, beloved wife of John Carle Anderson, III, died peacefully at her home in Marion Station, MD on August 16, 2021. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Marian Sue Anderson and Dr. Martha Carle Anderson, who both live in Washington, D.C., and her brothers Thomas Edwin Hall (Charlottesville, VA) and Lawrence Hall (Washington, D.C.). She was 75.
Raised in Kensington, MD, Judy was the daughter of Thomas Elliott Hall and Orleana Cook Hall. Her parents moved from Effingham, Kansas to the suburbs of Washington, D.C. in support of her father's career as an agricultural economist. Judy attended Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD, then graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Home Economics, and then went on to get a Master's degree in Textile Chemistry. She came to the Eastern Shore on assignment with her job at the Extension Service, working with local 4-H chapters. She and John married in 1973 and celebrated 47 years of marriage together. Judy was close to John's mother, the late Marian Handy Anderson, and cooked with her to perfect her recipes for strawberry pie and crab cakes.
After her children were of school age, she then worked in various administrative and support roles at Worcester Preparatory School (WPS) in Berlin, MD. She was employed by WPS for over 20 years before retiring in 2008. After her departure and John's retirement, she and John sailed to the Bahamas multiple times before taking residence in Marathon, FL with their Siamese cats, Misty and Cocoa. Boot Key Harbor in the Florida Keys became their home for much of the year.
An avid gardener, Judy delighted in working in her gardens at the family home in Marion Station and participating in the Somerset County Garden Club. She passed down to her daughters a love of cooking and reading. She was a long-time member of the Somers Cove Yacht Club, as well. As a member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, she had served as an elder and in multiple other leadership roles. She will be remembered for her graciousness, commitment to her family and kindness of heart.
A graveside service officiated by Rev. David Parke will be held at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 5757 Coventry Parish Road, Westover, MD 21871 at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 20, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Coastal Hospice. Please send all donations to P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802, noting that it is given in memory of Judy Anderson.
