In her own words, Joyce wanted others to remember her as "A Christian. Nothing else really matters. A Christian wife, a Christian mother, a Christian friend, a Christian grandmother. I want them to know how much I loved the church." Joyce also wrote many poems and stories about her family and her church family, and enjoyed going out to dinner with her husband every week.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Perry F. White, Jr., whom she married October 19, 1942; four children, Brenda Jones and husband Louis of Eden, and Perry David White and wife Marilyn, James White and wife Debbie, and Joseph White, all of Wenona; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Couillard, Shannon Palmer and husband John, William White and wife Rachel, Hunter White, Louis Jones, Jr., David White, Christina Gunter and husband Robert, Andy White, Wendy White and Sara Towles and husband LJ; nine great-grandchildren, Emily Hattaway, James Couillard, Jack Couillard, Grace White, Olivia Palmer, Madison Palmer, Hannah White, Robbie Gunter, Jr., and Lindsey Gunter; three sisters, Billie Louise Wade, Marion Davis and Judy Crisp; one brother, Jack Booth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Anna White Phippin in 1991, and her grandmother, Brittie Guthrie.
