Obituary

Joyce Ward Briddell, 87, of Crisfield, MD, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Marilyn's Home for the Aging in Snow Hill after a long illness.

She was born and raised in Crisfield, daughter of Walter and Mabel Ward, then moved to the Washington, DC area for many years, finally returning to her beloved Eastern Shore in 1996.

Joyce was a woman of character and grace and considered her roles as loving wife and nurturing mother her finest achievements. Over the years, she studied, traveled, volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II, and actively participated in church and community, winning many awards for her home, garden, decorating, and floral artistry. In her early years, she worked for Carvel Hall Cutlery where she met Willis Briddell - her husband of 63 years. Willis preceded Joyce in death in 2004.

Joyce is survived by her children, Kent Briddell and his wife, Peggy O'Neill of Mt. Airy, MD, Dr. Dan Briddell and his wife, Connie, of Virginia Beach, and Jan Briddell Calloway and her fiancé, Alan Stevens, of Washington, DC; as well as her grandchildren, Dr. Laine Briddell and her husband, Ben Kopp, of Richmond, VA, Blake Briddell of Frederick, MD, Dane Briddell of Frederick, MD, Dr. Kate Crandley and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach, VA, Paige Cade and her husband, Andy, of Marshall, VA, 2nd Lt. Chelsea Argus and her husband, 2nd Lt. Ron Argus of Ft. Bliss, TX, and Cadet 1st Class Richard "Mac" MacLeod Baldwin of SUNY Maritime College, Bronx, NY. In addition, Joyce is survived by her two brothers, Calvin Ward and his wife, Joyce, of Crisfield, MD and Walter (Bill) Ward of Crisfield, MD; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished care-givers, and dear friends.

A funeral service officiated by The Rev. Kim Gilson will be held at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Crisfield, MD on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2pm where the family will be receiving and greeting guests there one hour prior. Interment at Sunny Ridge Memorial Park to follow service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either: First Baptist Church, 1 S. Somerset Avenue; or Immanuel U. M. Church, c/o Robert H. Bradshaw, Jr., 306 W. Main Street; both of Crisfield, MD 21817.
