Joseph John
Sawicki
May 20, 1938 — Oct 29, 2026
Crisfield, MD
Joseph John Sawicki, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at his home in Crisfield, MD.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 20, 1938, the son of the late Peter Sawicki and Anna (Bogdinovich) Sawicki.
Joe grew up in Curtis Bay, Maryland, in the house at the top of the hill on Filbert Street - across from the famous water tower. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic High School in 1957, and went on to get his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1962. After graduation, he spent 37 years with Bendix/Honeywell where he co-invented many airline avionics products and holds numerous patents. He held a private pilots’ license for both single and multiengine aircraft and earned his Airframe and Powerplant certification. One of the many projects he tackled was rebuilding a Beech Musketeer. Joe always looked for ways to fix rather than discard anything. He was an accomplished musician playing the accordion, clarinet, saxophone and piano, and he could play any tune after hearing it just one time.
Joe and Gail retired in 1999 and moved from Lighthouse Point, Florida, to Crisfield, Maryland. Along with his family, he loved fishing and crabbing; his yellow Lab, Deja, and living on the water.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Gail (Thall) Sawicki; daughter Kara (Sawicki) Bride and son-in-law Brian Bride Also, two very much loved grandchildren Aidan Bride and Maya Bride, along with many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in December.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to the charity of your choice or Hospice.
