Joseph Charles Kellner, 88, of St. Petersburg, FL and formerly of Crisfield, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Westminster Suncoast Nursing Home in St. Petersburg.
Born in Allentown, PA he was the son of the late Harry Kellner and Ruth Erdman Kellner.
Joe was a Mason, a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, a Vice President for the former W. T. Grant Co. Department Stores, and a manager for the Maryland Chapter for the Federation of the blind. He served in the Unites States Marines during W. W. II.
Joseph Kellner was much more than that, he was the perfect example of the "Greatest Generation". He served his country proudly and voluntarily, he served his church and family freely and without reservation. Uncle Joe never raised his voice in anger and rarely had a negative comment about anybody. He enjoyed cooking, music, fishing, and more than anything entertaining his family and friends. His advice was always sound and without prejudice (only provided when asked for). He was the consummate gentleman.
He was survived by his brother Jack Kellner, nephews John and James Kellner and a niece Karen Moody.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Dorsey Kellner, and his brother Frederick Kellner.
A celebration of his life with military honors will be held on Saturday, January 9th at 2:00 PM at the Asbury United Methodist Church. Pastor Todd Hurley will officiate. Urn interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery immediately following the service.
Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 909 Progress Circle, Suite 400, Salisbury, MD 21804.
Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home.
