Obituary

John Dawson Mackenzie, 83, of Shelltown, MD, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025 at his home.

Born on February 8, 1942 in Gloucester, England to Charles Robert Mackenzie and Elizabeth Mary (nee Dawson) Mackenzie, he was raised in Caister in Norfolk, as well as living in London and Sussex.

He received an Engineering PE, and was an electrical engineer who traveled the world on projects including France, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia, South Africa, Singapore, and Venezuela.  His projects also took him to many states in the US including Alabama, New Jersey, North Dakota, Montana, Texas, and Maryland.

He first came to America and lived and worked in New Jersey.  Following retirement, he settled down in Maryland where he built his dream home and lived there until his death.

John was dedicated to his community with long standing memberships in the Elks, Masons, Marion Fire Department, and Old Rehoboth Presbyterian Church.  He was well-known for his wit and character, as well as his tenacity and independence.

He is survived by his two daughters (from Catherine, nee Would) who he was incredibly proud of, Alexandra (married to Phil) and Allison (married to Mark).  He is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicholas (married to Courtney) and Aine.  A grandson, Christopher, preceded him in death.
