JOHN CALVIN LANDON, JR., 67, of Westover and formerly of Crisfield, died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.
Born in Crisfield on November 16, 1942, he was the son of the late John Calvin and Elaine Ford Landon.
A graduate of Crisfield High School Class of 1960, Mr. Landon was retired from the US Army Old Guard. A true patriot, he served two tours in Vietnam, and worked various positions while in The Old Guard including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Ceremonies in Arlington National Cemetery, and Spirit of America. He also served in ceremonial events in The White House during President Nixon's term. In addition, he served in the US Coast & Geodetic Survey in the 1960's.
His memberships include Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, Lifetime Member of VFW, and Cootie's. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid animal lover.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Ann Lawson Landon; six step-children, Rusty and Brian Mench, both of Rock Hall, and Terri Kerner, Robin Willey, Joseph Dominick and Barbara DiRocco, all of Delaware; a sister, Ruth Elaine Todd and husband George of Crisfield; nieces and nephews, George E. "Toddie", IV and Amy Todd of Crisfield, DeeDee Todd and Gerald Welch of Crisfield, and Jonathan and Angie Todd of Princess Anne; great nieces and nephews, Alex, Samantha, Will, Amaya, Brooks, Elaina and Robbie; 15 step-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. A memorial service will be conducted by the Crisfield Elks. The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate with speakers, John Paro, Terry Sommers and Chief Michael Tabor to assist. Interment with full military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
