John Emory Byrd, Jr., 79, of Crisfield, died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born September 29, 1935, and raised in Crisfield, he was the son of the late John Emory Byrd, Sr. and Elestine A. Sterling Byrd.
He was a graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1953. He was a machinist, working at the former Oscar Bard Machine Shop and later opened his own shop and was able to do small repair work for himself and friends. He was a retired stock clerk at the former A&P Grocery Store in Crisfield and worked at the former Ward's Crossing Market in his later years. He was also in the US Army Reserves for six years.
A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, he enjoyed drawing and was best known for his sketches of antique cars and trucks. He also was an avid cyclist and enjoyed bicycling all over the tri-county area.
He is survived by his special friends and caretakers, Randy and Starr Laird of Crisfield; his very special friend, Trinity Sterling and family of Crisfield; special friends, Glenwood D. Ewell of Crisfield, Mike Wells of Atlantic, VA, and John and Peggy Hess of Marion; a half sister, Josephine Schumacher; and several cousins.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Todd Hurley will be Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where a visitation will be 30 minutes prior. Interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery.
