Obituary

Jimmie Lee Howard, 87, of Salisbury and formerly of Crisfield, died Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake.

Born in Crisfield on May 23, 1928, he was the only child of Henry Lee and Agnes Riggin Howard.

A graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1945, he earned undergraduate credits from Salisbury State College and the US Naval Academy, and later graduated from Millersville State College in 1952 with a B.S. in Education. In addition, he earned graduate credits from Western Maryland, University of Maryland, Salisbury State College and George Washington University. Mr. Howard held certificates in Driver Education, Advanced Professional Education, and was a State of Maryland licensed realtor.

He retired from teaching after 30 years, teaching Industrial Arts and Driver Education in Somerset, Worcester, and Wicomico counties.

He also served in the US Marine Corps for two and a half years, US Navy for one year, and the US Air Force Reserves for nine years. In 1984 he was recipient of the Marine of the Year Award for the State of Maryland, Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Merit in recognition of civic work, and Maryland Senate Resolution in recognition of Marine Corps League activity. He also held many offices of the Delmarva Detachment Commandant on the National and State levels.

He was a member of American Legion Post #64 in Salisbury, served on Board of Trustees of Blood bank of the Eastern Shore, President of Salisbury Jaycees, President Wicomico County Republican Club, President Somerset County Red Cross, President Somerset County Mental Health Association, Charter President Crisfield Junior Chamber of Commerce, and also initiated the Toys for Tots program for the Lower Eastern Shore.

In his younger years, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Crisfield and transferred his membership to Allen Memorial First Baptist Church after his move to Salisbury in 1969.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gloria Chambers Parks Howard; three children, JL Howard and wife Kathleen of Westover, Terri Lee Howard of Hebron, and Brad Lee Howard of NC; four grandchildren, Jimmie Lee Howard, III "Jay" of Princess Anne, Clay Nelson Howard and wife Bethany of Princess Anne, Kelli Lee Pryor of Crofton, and Jason Brent Pryor (US Navy) and wife Jennifer of Moyock, NC; and seven great grandchildren.

A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where the family will receive friends one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. William Warren will officiate.
