CRISFIELD
JERRY C. CARTER, 64, of Crisfield, died Monday, November 27, 2006 at his home.
Born in Crisfield on June 1, 1942, he was a son of the late John Henry Carter, Jr. and the late Sarah Isabelle Morgan Helgeson.
He was a retired construction worker with the former Carl J. Williams & Sons Company for many years, and earlier, was a truck driver for the former W. F. Morgan & Sons Seafood Company. He was also a United States Air Force veteran.
He was a member of Mariners United Methodist Church in Crisfield, Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, Lower Eastern Shore Moose Lodge #2431 in Westover, the National Rifle's Association, and was affiliated with the Crisfield High School Class of 1960. He enjoyed refurbishing classic cars, and he loved his family.
He is survived by his children, Cathy Vermillion of Dover, Delaware, Patti Lambert and Timothy Carter, both of Louisiana, and Jerry Carter Smith and Keith Carter Spriggs, both of Smith Island; his brothers and sisters, Neil Helgeson and Robert Helgeson, both of Salisbury, Mary Lynn Hastings of Delmar, Diane Morgan of Crisfield, Frances Evans of Hebron, and Jack Helgeson of Cambridge; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; his special friends, June Parsons, Stevie Thomas and Ernest "Slim" Collins, all of Crisfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Carter and Jay Helgeson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jay Hurley will officiate. Urn interment will be held at a later date in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
