Obituary

Jean Headley Cox, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Tawes Nursing Home. She was 99 years young.

Born in London, England on October 31, 1924, she was daughter of William James and Mary Alice Headley.

As a teen in London at the beginning of WWII, she enlisted in the Womens Land Army. She worked in the British countryside near the village of Whitney.

Jean married the love of her life, Austin, in July of 1943. She arrived in the United States in October of 1944.

Jean was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was always known for her beautiful knitting and sewing skills. She enjoyed traveling and made many trips back to her home in the UK. She always enjoyed the time visiting with her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and husband in whatever adventure was presented.

Jean is survived by her children, Christine Tyler, Sandra Johnson and husband Phil, Julia Cox, Austin Cox, Jr. and wife Evelyn, and Elizabeth Powers and husband Harry; son-in-law, Paul Emely; grandchildren, Toby Tyler, Katy Tyler, Wesley Tyler and wife Michele, Nathan Tawes and wife Teresa, Jennifer Tawes, Stephanie Johnson, Christy Emely, Erik Emely and wife Jamie, Stephen Emely and wife Kim, Heather Insley and husband Sam, Chelsea Eskridge and husband Nick, Hunter Cox, Elice Campbell and husband Chris, Rebecca Grande and husband Colin, and Heather Powers; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 72 years, Austin Cox, Sr.; daughter, Deborah Emely; granddaughter, Megan Johnson; son-in-law, Lex Tyler; brothers, Robert and John; and her sister, Elice.

The family deeply appreciates the wonderful caregivers who made our mothers final years so comfortable.

A celebration of her life officiated by Father Mike Lokey will be Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, MD. A visitation will be from 10-11 AM. Urn interment will follow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, c/o Father Mike Lokey, P.O. Box 245, Marion, MD 21838.
