JANIE LEE CONNER, 88, of Marion Station, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke.
Born in Rehobeth on December 30, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Coons and Virginia Henderson Coons. Her husband, Stanley F. Conner, preceded her in death February 13, 1978.
A graduate of Marion High School, she was a homemaker and was one of the first female employees of DuPont in Seaford prior to World War II, where she met her husband who had served in the U.S. Navy before the war. During World War II, they moved to Marion and lived there for the rest of their lives.
She was a member of Rebobeth Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was also active in the Marion Lions Club Auxiliary and Marion Fire Department Auxiliary. During the 80's and 90's she especially enjoyed meetings and trips sponsored by the local AARP. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and attending and planning her high school reunions.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley L. Conner of Marion Station, Patrick Wayne Conner and his wife Vicki of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Andrew Craig Conner of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Brent Conner of Crisfield, Noel Marshall of Marion Station and Nathan Conner of Phoenix, Arizona; four siblings, Margaret Ardis of Rehobeth, Earl Coons of Rehobeth, Broadus Coons of Rehobeth, and Bob McCready of Princess Anne; and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jackson Coons.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 2 PM at Rehobeth Baptist Church where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Tommy Maddox will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion.
