Janet Riggin Blades, 84, of Crisfield, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Crisfield on August 16, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Clarence C. and Mildred Lucy Ward Riggin.  Her husband, Alvin Sterling Blades, preceded her in death on September 30, 1995.

A graduate of Crisfield High School Class of 1952, she was a retired secretary/bookkeeper at her husband's business, A & W Auto Sales.

She was a life-long member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW, Kirk Sterling's Sunday School class, the Council on Ministries, and the finance committee.  Very active in her community, she was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, AARP, and was past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles.  She loved being with her family, especially spending time with her grandson.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Stewart of Portland, CT; her brother, Phillip Gary Riggin of Leesburg, FL; step-children, Brook Blades of PA, Julie Moscatello of SC, and Andrew Dulaney Blades of Crisfield; grandchildren, Blake Alvin Blades of Crisfield, Emma Blades of PA, and Nick Moscatello and Matthew Moscatello, both of SC; special nieces, Bea Marshall and Lisa Lord, both of Crisfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, Dolly Miller, Elestine Riggin, Dorothy Marshall, Frances Sterling, Joy Faye Dize, and Margaret Parks.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where a viewing will be one hour prior.  The Rev. Sumner Jones will officiate.  Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
