Obituary

Jane S. Riggin, 87, of Crisfield, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from TidalHealth Peninsula Regional surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Crisfield on August 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Mabel Holland Sterling. Her husband of 55 years, Howard Lee Riggin, preceded her in death on October 12, 2010.

Jane was Valedictorian of Crisfield High School class of 1956. In her earlier years, she was a telephone operator with the former C&P Telephone Company, was a bank teller at the former Peninsula Bank, and was owner along with her husband of the former Wards Crossing Market. Most recently, she was owner of Jane’s Accents in Crisfield.

She was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and was past president. Active in her community, Jane was coordinator for Women Supporting Women, member of the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce, and was a 25+ year member of the former Junior Auxiliary Board of McCready Hospital where she also was past president.

She loved and adored her family, as they loved and adored her. Family time, morning devotions, serving at church, sunsets, socializing with friends, and daily walks when she was able, were some of the things she greatly cherished.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Jane Ernst of Crisfield, Lee Ann Flaherty (Steve) of Crisfield, Lisa Owens (Arzie) of Greenville, SC, and April Riggin Tyler (Darrell) of Marion Station; a brother, David Sterling of Portsmouth, VA; nine grandchildren, Annie Covington (Gordon), Elizabeth “Liz” David (Josh), Teage Ernst (Megan), Courtney Hurley (Rob), Brooks Flaherty, Chad Owens (Kelly), Katie Crosby (Bruce), Adrienne Tyler, and Brett Tyler; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, George E. “Junie” Marshall, Jr.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2 PM at Asbury U. M. Church in Crisfield where a viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Pastors Jeff James and Stephen Willing will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Asbury U. M. Church Memorial Fund.
