Obituary

We lost a loving husband, father, grandfather and true friend when we lost Clarence Johnson on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Born in Salisbury on April 18, 1941, to Dr. Robert H. Johnson and Helen Fynes Johnson, Clarence grew up in Princess Anne, Maryland, where his sense of family and love of sports developed and became a long-lasting interest as he watched his children and grandchildren compete in high school and college athletics.

Clarence is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, and his children: Becky Larkin (Mike), Susan Johnson, and Patrick Johnson (Jen). He was a proud grandfather to Sydney Lowe (Kory), Morgan Larkin, Emma Johnson (Chris), Ally Johnson, and Reed Johnson, and a great-grandfather to Liam Sooy. He also leaves behind brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Cheryl Murphey and his nieces and nephews: Jason Murphey, Colleen White, Kris Stauffer, Terrie Seward, Courtnay Capps, Randy Price, and Carter Price and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Robert H. Johnson, Jr. and his wife Ann, and his sister, Gail J. Price and her husband Phil.

Clarence earned his Bachelor's degree from Randolph Macon, where he played soccer, and his Master's degree from the University of Virginia. His career was dedicated to education for 40 years beginning his career as a history teacher and coaching football and soccer in Accomack County, VA. He continued his career at Washington High School in Somerset County, MD as a teacher, coach, principal, supervisor, and assistant superintendent. Upon retiring in 2004, he enjoyed spending time reading, traveling with Patty and friends, and supporting the Bayside Conference Athletics Conference.  His countless activities included playing golf and watching the Orioles, Ravens, and any college sport on TV. But most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family, eating out with friends, picking up his grandchildren from school and attending their numerous school and athletic events.

Clarence's legacy of love of family, humor, and passion for sports will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him through the countless memories and stories that will be shared.

Visitation will be held at Hinman Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, 10:00 -12:00 with a service beginning at 12:00.  Rev. Olivia Costango will officiate.  Urn Interment will be private in St. Andrews Episcopal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bayside Athletic Conference, Attn. T. Banks, 1015 Beaglin Park Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804, or to Antioch Church, 11656 Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne, MD 21853.

Clarence was truly a remarkable man, and we will forever be grateful for the love and laughter he brought into our lives. We will miss him dearly.
