Obituary

James Marion Brofee, 69, of Marion, Maryland and Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, died at his Maryland home Monday, February 16, 2015 of a massive heart attack.

Jim was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on July 18, 1945. He was raised on Nekoda View Farm (Millerstown, Pennsylvania) by the late Delmar Leroy and Flo Evelyn Bardell Brofee along with his three brothers: Merril, Bob, and Ed. His youngest brother, Ed preceded him in death.

Jim was a graduate of Greenwood High School in Millerstown, Harrisburg Area Community College, Elizabethtown College, West Chester State University, and Temple University. In addition to his undergraduate degrees, he held a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Temple University.

Jim worked as a guidance counselor in Octorara Area Middle School and High School for the majority of his career, retiring in 2003 and moving to Marion, Maryland with his wife, the then Superintendent of Somerset County Schools. Parting was hard after 33 years; he cared deeply for the Octorara community. Retirement lasted less than a month as he assumed a counsellorship at Chincoteague High School for several years before transitioning to Eastern Shore Community College as a Career Counselor, a job that he dearly loved and commented that he would do with no pay. He and Karen-Lee retired in 2011 in order to spend more time with their grandchildren and to travel. They have done both.

Jim has been an active member of the London Grove Religious Society of Friends Monthly Meeting (Quaker) for over 40 years during which time he assumed many direct and indirect leadership roles.

Jim loved people—all people, life—wherever he was, and religiously appreciated all the blessings he received throughout his days.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen-Lee Nuber Brofee; his daughter, Beth Ellen Stark and husband Judge Leonard Stark of Wilmington, Delaware; his son, Neal Thomas Brofee of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren, Brennan Henry Stark, Lucy Evelyn Stark, and James (Jamie) Walter Stark of Wilmington.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 1:00 PM at London Grove Friends Meeting, 500 West Street Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348.

Donations may be made to the London Grove Education Outreach Fund to the above address; or Doctors Without Borders(www.doctorswithoutborders.org)MSF USA 333 7th Avenue, New York City, N.Y. 10001-5004.
