Rev. (Bishop) James Jackson Caldwell, 80, of Athens, WV, was born on December 3, l932, in Oakvale, WV. He celebrated a new life on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. He was the son of the late Ralph and Ada Worley Caldwell from Severn, MD.
He loved God and worked to serve Him. He pastored for over 55 years, serving churches in Hubble, WV; Newville and Everett, PA; and Elkton, Boonsboro, Crisfield, and Pocomoke, MD. He held positions on the Church of God State Council and as District Pastor for several years.
He traveled to El Salvador and the Philippines several times to help build churches. He was quite a builder, building two church parsonages where he pastored. While pastoring in Elkton, MD, he also drove a bus for the public schools for several years.
He loved playing sports such as basketball, baseball, football, golf, horseshoes, and ping pong. He also loved to fish, hunt, ride horses, and sled ride with his children and grandchildren. He was appropriately called a "Jack of all trades", as his nickname was Jack. He would and could do anything for anyone. He also loved vacationing with his family and, especially, loved Christmastime.
After retirement, he worked full time as a security guard at Pipestem State Park in Pipestem, WV, up until the first part of this year.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Elizabeth Caldwell; his daughter and son in law, Cindy and Stacey Johnson of Laurel, DE; daughter, Jackie Caldwell of Pocomoke, MD; son, James Caldwell II of La Grange, GA; stepdaughters and their husbands, Belinda and Travis Magnum of Greensboro, NC; Annette and Ronnie Thomure of Princeton, WV; Renee' and Marty Trimnal of Camden, SC; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Caldwell; wife of 50 years, Norma Jean Caldwell; and 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services officiated by Pastor Stacey Johnson will be held Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 2:30 PM at the Crisfield Church of God. A viewing will be held Saturday evening from 6-8 at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield and from 1-2:30 at the church on Sunday. Interment will be private in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
