Obituary

James Robert "Jamie" Byrd, III, 77, of Crisfield, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024 at his home.

Born in Crisfield on October 27, 1946, he was a son of the late James Robert Byrd, Jr. and Pearl Politte Byrd.

He was a 1964 graduate of Crisfield High School, attended Baltimore Institute, and served in the National Guard for six years with the 1229th Trucking Division.

Mr. Byrd was a retired banker, starting his career at the former Bank of Crisfield. He also worked at Eastern Shore National Bank, Peninsula Bank, Mercantile Peninsula Bank, PNC Bank, and most recently, Hebron Savings Bank from which he retired.

Very active in his community, he served on the former McCready Hospital Board and the Somerset County School board for two terms. Over the years he was a former member of the Jaycee's, Crisfield Lions Club, and the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce where he was proud of his work as Crab Derby Chairman for 8 years. He volunteered his time with the Crisfield Little League where he spearheaded major fundraisers to help obtain new sod and signs to name a few. He was an antique car enthusiast, and enjoyed many Cruise In's and Car Shows. He was also an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues in his earlier years.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Carrie Bowden Byrd of Crisfield; son, Aaron Robert Byrd of Crisfield; grandchildren, Jaxon Robert Byrd and Amelia Pearl Byrd; brother, Richard Byrd; sister, Judy Evans; uncle, Vernon Tawes and wife Irmgard; in-laws, Mildred and Steve Mrohs, Donna Roberts, Ginger and Mike Dryden, Gaile Bowden, Mary Kay and Ozzie Hill, and Cissy Bowden; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Donald Ray Bowden, Larry Roberts, and Denny Evans.

There will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to your local Parkinson's Association or to your local Alzheimer's Association.
