Obituary

James A. "Chops" Baker, Sr., 61, of Crisfield, passed away at Accent Care Hospice at Franklin Square in Rosedale, MD on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Born in Crisfield on February 9, 1963, he was a son of the late Joseph Baker, and the late Ruby and Roger "Bubby" Riggin, Jr.

A US Army Veteran, he was a self-employed boat mechanic and waterman. He attended Lighthouse Assembly of God in Chincoteague, Living Hope Church of God in Marion Station, and Crisfield Church of God.

He enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, and camping. He also loved cooking, especially frying oysters for his family and friends, and was known for his delicious chocolate fudge.

He is survived by his wife of three years, Becky Piskor Baker of Crisfield; sons, James Alan Baker, Jr. and his family, and Austin Baker, all of Crisfield; step-children, William Weldon, Quinton Weldon, and Lillian Weldon, all of Crisfield; siblings, Lynette Lau and husband Jeff of Princess Anne, Terri Baker Tawes and husband Craig of Crisfield, and Roger "Buggy" Riggin, III of Crisfield; his special aunt, Mary Hall of Crisfield; mother-in-law, Teresa Piskor of Crisfield; brother-in-law, David Richards of Crisfield; sister-in-law, Carol Habel and husband Joe of Richmond, VA; his nieces and nephews, Roger Riggin IV, Kelsey Riggin, Evan Riggin, Spencer Cropper, and Amanda Richards; several cousins; and many friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kimberly Beth Richards.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 1 PM at the Crisfield Church of God where a visitation will be one hour prior.  Pastors Mike Vaughan and Kevin Wilson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad (LSCARS), P.O. Box 406, Crisfield, MD 21817.
